Men's soccer team ties No. 8 Monroe College

Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach preaches never giving up to his team. On Tuesday night that paid off as the Titans tied the game with 14 seconds left in regulation to tie No. 8 Monroe College at Daytona State College.

"We talk about having a never quit attitude and that really summarizes today," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Adam Butler said. "Maybe we weren't always the best team throughout different spells of the game but we had the no quit attitude. We wil see this team in Melbourne again in the national tournament. They caused us some serious problems but we found a way tonight."

Down 1-0 and the seconds ticking away, the Titans earned a free kick from almost midfield near the sideline. Sam Bayly lined things in and put a strike into the ball, sending it toward the front of the net. Junior Smith was there, directing the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net to tie the game 1-1.

It was Smith's third goal in the past two games and sixth of the season.

The teams would be scoreless in the first overtime as neither team could find the right combination to get past the defenses.

The second overtime saw the 17th-ranked Titans receive two red cards as they buckled down shorthanded to record the tie.

"Both teams were fantastic, I feel it was an exciting game and I think it would be a bit more excited to watch it if I weren't partial to one team but it was really good with a lot of high-level talent on display," Butler said. "

Eastern Florida State College will hit the road for the next couple of weeks, heading to Cheyenne, Wyoming on Sept. 30 for a game against Laramie County Community College and then will play Casper College on Oct. 2.

The Titans won't be back at Orlando Health Stadium until October 15.
