Men's soccer team falls in OT to No. 3 Salt Lake CC

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team lost a tight battle with No. 3 Salt Lake Community College on Saturday night at Orlando Health Stadium.

The Titans, who begin the season No. 19 in the preseason poll, traded shots with Salt Lake Community College most of the evening with the Bruins coming up with the goal in the final seconds of the first overtime for the 3-2 victory.

Salt Lake Community College scored the first goal of the game with 20:36 eft in the first half. It looked like the Bruins may take a 2-0 lead but EFSC goalkeeper Jorge Ortega made a nice diving save to keep it a 1-0 deficit.

With 4:04 remaining in the first half, Jack Nelson took a nice cross and buried it into the back of the net for his first goal as a Titan.

The teams headed into halftime tied 1-1.

Salt Lake Community College once again took the lead early in the second half and looked like they may hold onto it until a foul in the box with 12:30 left led to a Salt Lake player and the head coach being ejected.

Junior Smith stepped up to the penalty line and blasted a shot past the goalkeeper to once again tie the game 2-2.

The game would eventually head to overtime and once again Salt Lake CC looked like they would take the lead with 5:46 remaining but Ortega made another nice save on a Salt Lake breakaway.

But with the final seconds of the first overtime ticking down, the Bruins hit a rocket into the back of the net to give Salt Lake Community College the victory.

Eastern Florida State College (0-1) will travel to Nevada to play the College of Southern Nevada on Friday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. The Titans will be back at Orlando Health Stadium on Sept. 1 against Johnson University at 7 p.m.
