Men's soccer team beats No. 13 Monroe College

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team picked up a big win over No. 13 Monroe College 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Orlando Health Stadium.

The Titans showcased their speed early as Gunnar Studenhofft got behind the defense and was fouled by the goalkeeper twice in the first 25 minutes that led to penalty kicks.

The first came 15 minutes into the contest and Studenhofft took the penalty kick, burying it for a 1-0 lead. The second came 15 minutes later and Rolando Onu took the penalty kick for him as he walked off the collision. Onu hit the penalty kick and it was 2-0 Titans.

Four minutes later Sam Bayly took a free kick outside the box and found Leandro Santoro who put it in the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.

It would remain 3-0 into the second half when Monroe College cut into the lead with a nice goal on a free kick.

A red card left the Titans shorthanded for the final 28 minutes of the match and it became a shootout as Nemo Lazo took a pass from Onu to make it 4-1 with 21:32 left.

But Monroe College would strike back with two goals in a two-minute span with three minutes to go to cut the lead to 4-3.

But the Titans were not to be denied on Sunday as Luke Sexton scores his first goal of the season with 11 seconds left on the clock to post the 5-3 win.

Eastern Florida State College will host Daytona State College Tuesday night in an exhibition match at 6 p.m. before opening the Region VIII Conference season on Oct. 16 at Daytona State College.
