Men's soccer team wins in double overtime at national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team scored in double overtime to defeat Pima Community College in the Group D opener at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Tyler, Texas.

Sophomore Aedon Kyra saw Levonte Johnson in the middle of the field racing toward the goal, making the cross and the freshman buried it three minutes and 56 seconds into the second overtime to give the Titans a 1-0 win.

"As expected it was a really tough game against the defending national champions. We defended with desire and concentration throughout with excellent performances from our goalkeeper and back four," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "We struggled to find consistent quality going forward, but we found a way to win. It was a great moment and we are looking forward to Wednesday."

Eastern Florida State College, the No. 4 seed, outshot Pima 15-10 and had a couple chances late in regulation in the closely-contested game.

The Titans (14-1-2) will play No. 5 seed Essex County on Wednesday in the final game of Pool D. The winner of the group will advance to the national tournament semifinals on Friday.
