Men's soccer team tops Richard Bland, plays for national tournament berth Saturday

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team advanced to the Southeast District final with a 4-0 victory over Richard Bland College Friday at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans will play Louisburg, who came back to beat Georgia Military 3-2 in the first semifinal. The final will kick off at 7 p.m. at the stadium with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament. 

Eastern Florida State College is now 13-1-1 overall and ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA poll and the No. 1 seed got things going in the first half.

Sophomore Aedon Kyra scored the first two goals in the first half and has now scored 13 times this season.

Already up 2-0, freshman Abdoulaye Diop scored and then freshman Hugo Catherine made it 4-0 with a nice goal.

Louisburg, who is No. 8 in the latest poll and the No. 2 seed, scored twice in the final 15 minutes to top Georgia Military as David Amissi scored his second goal of the night with 4:53 left to win it.

The two teams faced each other the past two years in the Southeast District Tournament with the Titans winning last year and Louisburg winning in 2017. Overall the series is tied 2-2 in the district tournament.
