Men's soccer team wins seventh straight, tops Montgomery College
The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team won its seventh straight game Sunday afternoon, defeating Montgomery College 2-1 at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.
Freshman Mario Licor scores the game-winning goal with six minutes two seconds left to help the Titans improve to 9-1 on the season.
Licor has scored two times this season, all coming in the past four games.
The third-ranked Titans scored the first goal of the day with 1:36 left in the first half as Afolabi Soyemi-Olade came off the bench and scored his first goal of the season, taking a pass from Schimiliguen Castin, turned and beat the Montgomery goalkeeper.
"He did exactly what we wanted, he was energetic, aggressive and scored a fantastic center forward goal, was able to hold the ball up, swivel and score," Twelvetrees said. "We know we have goals in this team from different areas and it is really important that the goals come from different areas of the park.
The Titans held the lead into halftime but Montgomery scored the equalizer seven minutes into the second half as Gustavo Gonzalez put a free kick into the corner of the net. The goal snapped a program-record six game shutout streak for the Titans.
"A lot of credit goes to Montgomery, to come back from a goal down and make it a really difficult game for us, we have to learn to be a little more cut-throat when we have our chances and a little more clinical in the fnal third, that is our challenge. They tested us today and we came through the test and scored the goal in the secnd half."
Eastern Florida State College will return to the Region 8 Conference schedule on Friday night, traveling to Broward College for a matchup of top teams in the conference.
