Men's soccer team ties record with fifth straight shutout
The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team posted its fifth straight shutout Tuesday night, tying a school record set in 2018.
The Titans defeated ASA Miami 1-0 in a Region 8 Conference match at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus of Eastern Florida State College.
Sophomore Nathaniel Campbell found teammate Aedon Kyra who put it in the back of the net with 28 minutes remaining to give the Titans a lead. It was Kyra's eighth goal of the season.
That was all the defense needed as they held the ASA Miami offense in check to post the sixth shutout of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Nour Moaoui recorded his fifth shutout of the season and is three away from the school record which he posted last season.
"That is three games in the conference and no goals conceded so we are happy with another excellent defensive performance and we created enough chances to win the game," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "It was a physical game, a tough team to play and there have been a lot of 1-nils in the history of Eastern Florida and ASA and we just have to keep embracing the grind and doing the dirty things in futbol to win games."
It looked like the Titans would take the lead late in the first half as Levonte Johnson beat the goalkeeper and took a shot, but defender Sanjay Williams kicked it out to keep it scoreless. And then with the clock winding down, defender Moussa Gueye hit a header that just went over the crossbar.
The Titans will be back at Orlando Health Stadium Friday night for a non-conference game with Spartanburg Methodist at 7 p.m.
"It will be nice to have a little break from the conference and hopefully we can get our shooting boots on and have some good games this weekend at Orlando Health Stadium," Twelvetrees said.
Spartanburg Methodist will play Montgomery College on Saturday at noon and then the Titans will play Montgomery Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Admission to Orlando Health Stadium is free.
