Men's soccer team has big night in season opener

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team opened the 2019 regular season with a bang.

The No. 5-ranked Titans scored seven times to defeat No. 19 Morton College 7-1 Thursday night at Titan Soccer Complex.

Sophomore Aedon Kyra got things going early, scoring the first two goals including converting a penalty kick.

With the Titans already up 2-0, newcomers Levonte Johnson and Damen Marcu each found the back of the net to help the Titans head into halftime with a 4-0 lead

"Overall a very positive night, we played well in all phases of the game," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "We were able to get some younger players some experience and overall it was just a good day."

Morton College would score early in the second half on a penalty kick by Patrick Kibler but that was as close as the Panthers would get as the Titans would score three more times in the final 15 minutes.

Freshman Leonardo Marcondes would make it 5-1 and then Johnson would score his second goal of the day and then Chris Dillan rounded out the scoring with four minutes remaining.

"It is the ideal start, the boys did the things we talked about in practice and in the meetings and executed it perfectly tonight, but this is just the start," Twelvetrees said. "I thought our sophomores showed really good leadership today, there was a lot of unselfishness today."

The Titans will hit the road for two big games in Baltimore, Mayland over the weekend. The men's soccer program will play CCBC Essex on Saturday, 5 p.m. and then play No. 4 Monroe College on Sunday before coming back home to play Laramie County Community College on Aug. 30.
