Men's soccer hits road Saturday for conference tournament final

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team will hit the road to play for the Region 8 Conference Tournament championship game Saturday night.

The Titans will play Broward College in the final at 6 p.m. at Judson A. Samuels South Campus in Pembroke Pines. Eastern Florida State College advanced to the final after defeating Daytona State College 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Broward College is the No. 1 seed after going unbeaten in conference games and won both meetings with the Titans 1-0.

"They have done a great job of sticking to their game plan and executing it. We have had control of both games but just haven't done enough in the final third and they have defended incredible well," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "They are a dangerous team on the counter attack and we need to be aware of that so we don't get caught in transition like we did the first two games. They are a good side, they got the No. 1 seed for a reason and they will be the favorites going in. We have to make sure we are on top of our game and execute the game plan."

The Titans have won seven of the past eight games and head into the final No. 19 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll.

"We have had some losses that knocked us back a little bit, we have a young group, 16 freshmen on the team and it has been a learning experience but we are playing well at the moment, defending well and scoring goals," Twelvetrees said.

The winner of Saturday night's game will advance to the Southeast District Tournament next weekend to play the winners of Region 10 and Region 17 for a spot in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament.
