Men's soccer team honors nine sophomores after win

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer program recognized nine sophomores after a 5-1 victory over Watford FC Academy on Wednesday night at Titan Soccer Complex.

And the sophomores shined on Wednesday as Jai-Zel Smith-DeShields scored twice while Troy LaRue Gonzalez and Uziel Hernandez all scored in the game. Goalkeeper Nick Brady, defenders Tajay Reid, Rhys Myers and Perrie Nascimento, midfielder Abdu Ganiyu Iddrisu and forward Dylan Moreira all started and played well in the regular-season finale.

"Troy, Abdul and Rhys have really been the leaders of the team the past two years and have been here three semesters so they are really super sophomores and have done a fantastic job of being leaders and being good in the classroom, on the field and in the community," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "Overall this group has done well in all aspects, it is fantastic to see players like Jai and Dylan really contributing in their sophomore year and making a difference on this team. The transfers have also come in and really done well so it is really a good group of boys."

The Titans head into the postseason on a roll and will host a Region 8 Conference playoff game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
