Men's soccer team tops ASA Miami in conference matchup

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team defeated ASA Miami in a Region 8 Conference game Tuesday night at Titan Soccer Complex.

With the score tied 0-0 and time winding down, Schimiliguen Castin found second-year player Jai-Zel Smith-DeShields in front of the net and DeShields put it in the corner of the net to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.

"It was a good play all the way from the back, Schimi got the ball in the box and we made eye contact and Schimi made a great cross to the back post and I was determined to get the game winner," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer player Jai-Zel Smith-DeShields said. "It felt great to get the game-winning goal, it was a good team builder for us as we go into these final games of the regular season."

The Titans had a couple of good chances to score earlier in the contest but ASA Miami goalkeeper Jesus Tovar made a couple of stops to keep it scoreless. Titans goalkeeper Nour Moaoui picked up the win.

"I thought we played really, really well especially in the second half I thought we were excellent and we had to just grind it out," head coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "We are not a team that is going to come out and score five or six goals a game, we are a team that has great control, defend well and we possess the ball well so it is not going to be a 4-nil or 5-nil game with us, it is going to have to be a team first, family first atmosphere. Great to get the first conference win of the season and I think we will keep going forward from here."

The Titans (6-3 overall and 1-2 in Region 8) will host Keiser University JV on Thursday night before three straight conference games on the road beginning next Wednesday at ASA Miami.
