Big weekend ahead for men's soccer team

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team hits the road for a big weekend of soccer.

The Titans, who are No. 7 in both the United Soccer Coaches poll and the NJCAA Division I poll, will travel to Georgia to play No. 12 Georgia Military at 5 p.m. Friday and then face No. 18 Montgomery College Saturday at 2 p.m.

"This weekend will be huge challenge," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "Both teams we face are as good as anyone in the country.  Coach Dave Sexton at Georgia Military is in the top five in wins for active coaches for a reason. I expect to face an organized and talented outfit that has some fantastic attacking threats."

Georgia Military (4-1-1) is led by Charlie Braithwaite who has seven goals and four assists while teammate Juan Mackrey has scored five goals.

The Titans come into the contest outscoring opponents 25-4 in four games this season led by sophomore Jimmy Mwanga's four goals. Teammates Aedon Kyra, Schimiliguen Castin and Uziel Hernandez each have three goals. The team will get two big pieces back this weekend as Troy LaRue Gonzalez and Sebastian Joffre are healthy.

Montgomery (6-1) comes into Saturday's game as one of the highest-scoring teams in the nation, scoring 43 goals in seven games. Youness Benmouna leads the attack with nine goals.

"It is important for our dominant defense to step up this weekend as I believe it is the key for our teams success not only this weekend but when we resume conference play next week," Twelvetrees said. "Playing two games back to back is always a challenge physically and psychologically so I am excited to see how our boys react to the challenge."
