Men's soccer team improves to 2-0 with 8-1 win

The Eastern Florida State College men's soccer team wrapped up its weekend in Maryland with a convincing 8-1 victory over No. 15 CCBC Essex Sunday afternoon.

The Titans, who are fifth in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll, are now 2-0 on the season and have outscored opponents 21-1 in the first two games.

On Sunday the Titans outshot CCBC Essex 25-5 and that pressure led to an early 2-0 lead as Caleb Young and Abdul Ganiyu Iddrisu both scored in the first 17 minutes of the contest. CCBC Essex would make it 2-1 but the Titans bounced back with three goals and went into halftime up 5-1.

Eastern Florida State College kept the pressure on in the second half and Schimiliguen Castin scored his third goal of the season to make it 6-1. Tajay Reid scored 13 minutes later and Jimmy Mwanga wrapped up the scoring with his second goal of the day and fourth goal of the season.

"I am extremely pleased with the progress we have made. It is great to see goals coming from so many different players on the team," Eastern Florida State College men's soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "We will continue to push the lads every day to reach our potential as a team but everyone played their part this weekend in a fantastic team effort."

The Titans will travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game. The home opener for the Titans will be Sept. 6 against Broward College which will also be the Region 8 Conference opener.
