Men's golf team leads Southeast District Championship after first round

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team shot even par 288 to lead after the first round of the NJCAA Southeast District Championship at Viera East Golf Club Monday.

The teams finished almost half of the second round before the rains came.

The Titans are leading the tournament, 11 strokes ahead of Jefferson State Community College. Calhoun Community College and Wallace State Community College are tied for third place.

Sophomore Robert Greninger shot a 1-under 71 in the first round and is tied for second place overall. Teammates Nicholas Miller and Murphy Allard each shot even par 72 and are tied for fifth place. Brandon Boncore had a 73 and is tied for seventh and Adam Vermut shot an 80.

Southern Union State's Garrett Trahan is leading the individual tournament after shooting a 70 in the first round while Greninger and Wallace State's Davis Aaron and Zackery Coker are all tied for second.

Teams will tee off in a shotgun start at 8 a.m. and the Titans will be on holes 10-12 to finish the second round and will then play the final round Tuesday.

The Titans are looking to win the district tournament for the third time in four years.
