Men's golf team leads Titan Winter Invitational after first day

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team heads into the final round of the Titan Winter Invitational at Suntree Country Club.

The Titans finished the day with a 581 and leads Webber International by three strokes and No. 1-ranked New Mexico Junior College is in third.

"It was a nice comeback this afternoon by the guys, not much balance in the morning round but a lot more balance in the afternoon," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said.

The Titans found themselves in third place after the morning round, but shot the best round of the day in the afternoon with a 2-under 286 to jump into the lead heading into Tuesday morning's final round. The final round begins at 8:15 a.m. on the Classic Course at Suntree Country Club.

Freshman Adam Vermut is leading the tournament after shooting rounds of 70 and 69 on Monday.

Teammate Brandon Boncore is in ninth place overall at 2-over with rounds of 74 and 72. Robert Greninger is tied for 18th at 6-over 150 and Noah Campbell is tied for 24th at 7-over 151. Murphy Allard shot a 71 in the second round and is at 156.

Nicholas Miller is tied for fifth overall after rounds of 69 and 75 for even par.

Webber International's Clay Jacobs and Vedant Sirohi are tied for second overall at 3-under 141.

"It's nice to play your own course, but you have to come out and perform and there is a fair amount of pressure on the guys and I know how hard they are trying. A long day to go tomorrow," Howell said.
