Men's golf team tied for third after one round of national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team is tied for third after one round of the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Odessa, Texas.

The Titans shot even par in the first round at Odessa Country Club and are tied with New Mexico Junior College and four strokes behind leader Hutchinson Community College.

Matt Gauntlett and Brandon Boncore each shot 1-under 71 in the first round and are tied for seventh place overall. Gauntlett was 2-under on the par 4 holes while Boncore was 2-under on the par 5 holes.

After a bogey on No. 4, Gauntlett birdied No. 6 and No. 14 while Boncore finished with four birdies and three bogeys in his round.

John Houchin and Drew Lanier both posted 1-over 73s in the first round while Robert Greninger the 18th hole to post finished with a 2-over. 

The Titans finished the round 5-under on the par 4 holes and had 62 pars in the round which was second-best in the tournament.

Eastern Florida State College will tee off beginning at 12:39 p.m. in the second round of the tournament.
