Men's golf team in second after two rounds of district tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team is in second place after two rounds at the NJCAA District 4 Championship in Alabama.

The Titans shot rounds of 283 and 293 to sit at 576, three strokes behind Central Alabama Community College heading into the final round on Tuesday morning at TP Country Club in Cullman, Alabama.

Sophomore John Houchin shot a 69 in the first round and then a 74 in the second round. Teammates Matt Gauntlett and Robert Greninger are one stroke behind Houchin.

Drew Lanier shot a 74 in the first round and a 71 in the afternoon for a 145. Brandon Boncore had rounds of 74 and 77.

"A good morning round followed by a difficult afternoon round. Good solid play by Drew (Lanier) in the afternoon and the guys scrapped to save shots," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We will need a cleaner scorecard from all on round three as Central Alabama is accustomed to being out front."

The Titans led by one round after the first round, but Central Alabama had a better afternoon session to head into the final round in the lead.
