Men's golf team places tied for seventh in national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team finished in a tie for seventh place in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament at Duran Golf Club.

The team shot 6-over in the final round and finished the tournament 6-over.

Sophomore Beck Fox finished tied for 12th overall at 3-under par and was named second team All-American after the tournament.

The 18th hole proved difficult for the Titans who finished 8-over on the final hole.

Freshman Thomas Matthews shot even par in the final round and finished tied for 20th overall. Teammate Josh Stern had his best round of the tournament, finishing with a 1-over par 73.

Ben Ramos struggled down the stretch, finishing 4-over 76 to place tied for 41st. Sean McGinty finished 2-over in the final round and tied for 52nd overall.

"We struggled. We worked hard to get here, we were just flat. We did OK the first two rounds but then were just flat. If you asked me to put my finger on what it was, I need to look at some things first," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We just didn't play the way we are capable of playing this week."

The seventh-place finish was the fifth straight season the Titans have finished in the top 10 in the nation.
