Men's golf team wins District 4 Championship, punches ticket to national tournament

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team shot their best round of the tournament on Tuesday to capture the District 4 Championship in Marion, Illinois.

The Titans shot a 295 in the final round to win the title by eight strokes over Central Alabama Community College. It is the fifth district title in the past seven years for the Titans and the eighth overall.

Sophomore Beck Fox shot a tournament-best 68 in the final round to win the individual title by five strokes over teammate Thomas Matthews. It was Fox's first individual collegiate title, shooting a 213 for the three rounds.

Matthews shot a 73 in the final round and finished tied for second with Central Alabama's Caleb O'Toole, shooting 218 for the tournament.

Teammate Josh Stern shot a 76 for the third straight round and finished tied for 10th in the tournament and Ben Ramos finished tied for 21st. Josh Yang shot his best round of the tournament, a 78 and tied for 34th.

"An awesome job by the team," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "Incredibly proud of Beck winning his first collegiate event in our biggest event of the season."

Fox and Matthews were named to the All-District 4 team.

The Titans advance to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament for the 17th straight season. This year's tournament will be from May 14-17 at Duran Golf Club in Viera.
