Men's golf team places seventh at The Battle at the Shores

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team placed seventh at The Battle at the Shores at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach.

Sophomore Beck Fox finished the tournament in eighth place after shooting a final round even par 71. Fox had three birdies in a row and four on the back nine to rebound from a double bogey on his third hole of the day. For the tournament, Fox shot a 1-over 214.

Teammates Thomas Matthews and Josh Stern placed in a tie for 31st overall. Matthews shot a 74 in the final round while Stern shot a 75. Tanner Gonzalez continued to play better each day of the tournament, shooting a 75 in the final round to place in a tie for 47th overall. Ben Ramos also shot his best round of the tournament, a 74 as he bounced back from an early double bogey with two straight birdies late in the round.

The Titans finished with a tournament-best 294 in the final round.

"We played very similar to the first two rounds, but the team hung in there well," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We need to sharpen up the basics and scoring clubs. A good comeback by Beck to notch a top 10 finish."

The Titans will prepare for the NJCAA District 4 Championship in Marion, Illinois n April 22-23. The top teams will advance to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament which will be held at Duran Golf Club May 14-17.
