Golf teams capture Collegiate Players Cup

The Eastern Florida State College golf team captured the Collegiate Players Cup on Friday at The Habitat Golf Course in Valkaria.

The Titans defeated Florida Tech 13-11 to reclaim the cup.

Sophomore Gianna Piscitelli clinched the win with a par in the dark on the final hole.

The match consisted of three rounds with foursomes, four ball and then singles matches. The Titans won the first round 4-2 as the duo of Piscitelli and Kacey Walker won 1-up, Josh Stern and Ryan McMillan won 1-up and Chandler Dixon and Tanner Gonzalez won 2-up.

In the four-ball portion, Beck Fox and Thomas Matthews won 2-up and Dixon and Gonzalez won 1-up.

In the singles matches, Fox won 2-up, Stern won 2 and 1, McMillan won 3 and 2, Gonzalez won 2 and 1 and Dixon won 3 and 2.

Walker then won 3 and 2 to set up Piscitelli's clinching win on the final hole.

"It was a good all-around effort by the team today. It is nice to bring the cup back to Eastern Florida!" Eastern Florida State College golf coach Jamie Howell said.

The men's golf team will compete in the Barry Buccaneer Invitational April 8-9 while the women's golf team will play in the Wallace State Spring Invitational April 1-2.
