Men's golf team places third in Florida Tech Invitational

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team finished third in the Florida Tech Invitational at Duran Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.

Battling rains and wind along with two of the top 10 teams in NCAA Division II men's golf, the Titans finished the tournament with an 879.

Sophomore Beck Fox was in the mix for the individual title all day but finished 1-over in the final round to finish in fourth place with a three-round score of 3-under 213.

"He will break through soon. It's a tough pill to swallow right now but he will learn from this experience and be better for it in the long run," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "He got a look at some of the best in Division II and held his own all week."

Thomas Matthews finished in a tie for sixth place after shooting a 77 on Tuesday and teammate Ben Ramos shot his third straight 74 to finish tied for eighth.

Barry University won the title, shooting 5-under for the tournament led by Jorge Garcia who shot 4-under on the back nine to win the individual title. Florida Tech finished third, shooting 5-over for the tournament.

The Titans will travel to Miami Beach to play in the Barry Buccaneer Invitational April 8-9 before preparing for the NJCAA District 4 Championship April 22-23 in Marion, IL.
