Men's golf team in fourth after first round of Coastal Alabama Invitational

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team is in fourth place after the first round of the Coastal Alabama Invitational at Rock Creek Golf Club in Fairhope, Alabama.

The Titans shot 300 as a team and is eight strokes behind leader Wallace State who shot 4-over as a team.

Eastern Florida State College freshman Thomas Matthews shot a 1-under 71 and is tied for fourth place while sophomore Beck Fox shot a 1-over and is in eighth place. Ben Ramos shot a 77 and Josh Yang had a 79 in the first round.

"Good job by Matthews and Fox today," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We will need much better balance to make up ground in the second round. It will be a good test as we have not chased down a leading team this year."

The Titans led the Titan Invitational from start to finish in the first event of the spring.

Connor Bruce of Wallace State and Brendan Keller of Calhoun Community College lead the tournament after shooting 3-under 69s.
