Men's golf team looks to build on opener in Alabama

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team is heading to Alabama to compete in the Coastal Alabama Spring Invitational beginning Saturday.

The Titans won the spring opener and three of those five starters are heading to Fairhope to try and make it two in a row.

Sophomore Beck Fox and freshmen Ben Ramos and Thomas Matthews all finished in the top seven in the Titan Invitational and have been consistent for the Titans.

Freshmen Tanner Gonzalez and Josh Yang took the final two spots in qualifying and round out the lineup.

"Not unlike the fall, a different event, a different lineup," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "Always a concern when the line-up changes and yet I believe it brings out the competitive side in all of them."

The team will compete against some of the top teams in the NJCAA at Rock Creek Country Club, where the Titans are the defending champions.

"Tough test at Rock Creek Country Club this week as the course is undulating and it will be wet after all of the rain lower Alabama has endured over the winter and this past week," Howell said. "If we adjust well and play to the golf course it will be curious to see how this lineup comes together."

The final round of the tournament will be on Sunday.
