Men's golf team in second place at NJCAA District Preview

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team is in second place after two rounds at the NJCAA District Preview in Marion, Illinois.

The Titans shot 299 in the morning session and came back with a 293 in the afternoon session for a 592 after two rounds. They are four strokes behind Southern Illinois, who are at 588.

"Kokopelli Golf Club is a very good golf course, it demands an accurate tee shot and good approach shot placement," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "We played nine holes of the first round in a light rain and that only added to the challenge."

Freshman Thomas Matthews is tied for second after shooting a 71 and a 72 for a 143. Teammate Josh Stern is in fourth place rebounding from a morning 77 with one of the best rounds of the afternoon, a 70.

Teammates Beck Fox and Sean McGinty are tied for seventh at 151 and Ryan McMillan is tied for 14th at 154.

The final round of the tournament is scheduled to be played Tuesday morning, but rain is in the forecast.
