Men's golf team opens Fall season Monday in Alabama

The Eastern Florida State College men's golf team will open the fall season in Alabama on Monday, competing in the Wallace State Fall Invitational.

Beck Fox, who competed in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament last season, returns along with Tanner Gonzalez and Chandler Dixon who was hurt for much of last season.

"I like this team," Eastern Florida State College men's golf coach Jamie Howell said. "I have some leadership to go with six hungry freshmen."

Among those freshmen is Tom Matthews who played on the international team in Wales, Ryan McMillan who was one of the better junior players in his province in Canada and a couple of Florida natives in Ben Ramos and Sean McGinty who coach Howell thinks could be good this season.

"I am interested to see who is going to step up," Howell said. "I am curious to see how it shakes out. How are they going to do, I think they are going to do well but I need to see it."

The group will open at Cross Creek Golf Course in Cullman, Alabama on Monday and Tuesday, a place the Titans have yet to post a win.

"Wallace is always a test the water kind of tournament," Howell said. "We go in with high expectations of shooting low scores because they set up the course that way so every team has those same expectations. We have won a number of tournaments at Wallace, but never that particular course. It is one I would like to win."

Defending National Champion Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will also compete at the invitational.
