Former Titan Mickey DeMorat finishes tied for 56th in U.S. Open
Former Eastern Florida State College golfer Michael 'Mickey' DeMorat shot a 3-over par 73 in the final round of the 118th U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
DeMorat finished 17-over for the tournament and is tied for 56th overall in his first professional golf tournament.
"It was awesome for me to be able to make the cut and play with some great players all week," said DeMorat who finished one stroke behind Phil Mickelson.
DeMorat hit 11 of 14 fairways and 13 of 18 greens in regulation in his final round and once again hit some big putts, including a 14-foot putt for birdie on No. 1, a 12-footer for par on No. 2 and a 10-foot putt on No. 15 for birdie.
The Merritt Island native shot 72, 72, 80 and 73 in the U.S. Open and is the fourth former Titan to make the cut at a U.S. Open, joining Paul Azinger, Scott Gump and Mike Smith.
"I enjoyed the whole experience of playing in the U.S. Open from the moment I arrived at the course," DeMorat said. "I met so many people who were supportive of me throughout the whole week and I really had fun playing in front of the crowds. I am looking forward to continuing my professional golf career this summer."
DeMorat will compete in the Florida Open Championship July 13-15 in Palm Harbor and will also compete in the Web.com qualifying school later this year.
