Titan Men Tie for Third at Barry

Eastern Florida's men's golf team made up some lost ground in Tuesday's final round of Barry University's Buccaneer Invitational to finish tied for third.

Eastern Florida shot 285 for the final 18 holes for 858 to tie St. Thomas Aquinas. Nova Southeastern won the tournament, shooting 283 for 846 to defeat Lynn University, second at 850.

The Titans, the NJCAA team competing against 14 four-year institutions, finished Monday's 36 holes tied for eighth.

The tournament was played at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach.

Lynn's Mateo Gomez shot 73 on Tuesday to win individual honors at 208.

For the Titans Bradley Bawden shot 71 to finish at 211, tied for seventh; Kerry Sweeney shot 69 for 214, tied for 17th; Tyler Bennett carded 70 for 215, tied for 24th; Michael Keymont 75 for 220, tied for 45th; and Corey Herman 76 for 225, tied for 73rd.

"The guys did a good job today," said Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell. "The course played difficult and we adjusted well. Moving up five spots in this event is a big jump.

"Brad Bawden was solid all three rounds. Kerry Sweeney played very well today. Tyler Bennett had his best event of the year. Three weeks from today we will be returning from our district championship and this event is exactly what we needed to recognize what we are capable of when the guys put it together."

The NJCAA District 4 Championship will be played April 25-26 in Cullman, Alabama. The tournament sends district representatives to the NJCAA Men's Division I Championship to be played at Viera's Duran Golf Club in May.
