Titan Men Finish One Stroke Short in Season Opener

Eastern Florida's men's golf team opened its season with a second-place finish in its Titan Winter Invitational at Suntree's Challenge Course on Tuesday.

Eastern Florida finished with a 36-hole total of 291-292-301=884 to 297-289-297=883 for the winner Johnson & Wales.

Johnson & Wales' Jake Bauer shot 77-69-72=218 to capture medalist honors. Teammate Peter French (73-72-74) and Webber International's Stuart Winsby (68-72-79) tied for second at 219.

Eastern Florida's Bradley Bawden (67-76-77) and Kerry Sweeney (72-73-75) tied for fourth at 220.

Michael Keymont shot 76-73-74=223; Corey Herman 76-72-75=223 and Tyler Bennett 77-74-78=229.

Playing as individuals Michael Stewart shot 77-73-79=229 and Taylor Whalen 85-83-81=249.

"It's probably the best wakeup call we could have and the timing could not be better," said Eastern Florida head coach Jamie Howell whose squad led by three strokes after Monday's 36 holes.

"One shot, everyone can find multiple shots over the course of three rounds. On a day like today you cope, scratch and claw for every shot recognizing the conditions will best you if you let them."

Next up for the Titans is the Feb. 29-March 1 Doublegate Invitational at Darton State College in Albany, Georgia.
