Men's basketball team wins fifth straight, beats Miami Dade on the road

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team won their fifth straight game Tuesday night, defeating Miami Dade College in a Citrus Conference matchup.

The No. 18 ranked Titans outscored Miami Dade by 25 points in the second half to pick up the 80-56 victory and improve to 5-1 in the conference and 17-3 overall.

Owen Aquino gave the Titans an early lead, scoring 10 of the team's first 13 points as the Titans led 13-5 in the first three-plus minutes of the game. Miami Dade would keep things close, hitting seven 3-pointers in the first half and led by a point going into halftime.

The Sharks would lead by six early in the second half but a three-point play by Aquino sparked the Titans who went on a 9-0 run to lead 43-40. Up two with 13 minutes left, Andrija Bukumirovic made a couple of baskets and Matija Zuzic hit the first of his three 3-pointers of the second half to extend the lead.

Aquino finished with 23 points in the game while Luca Colceag finished with 14 points and Zuzic had 11 in the win. Six players had at least eight points for the Titans.

John Latimer finished with 18 points for Miami Dade, who fell to 1-3 in the conference.

Eastern Florida State College will get some time off with an off day on Saturday. The Titans will be back in action Wednesday, Jan. 31 in a conference game on the road against Hillsborough Community College. The men's basketball team will be back at Titan Field House Saturday, Feb. 3 against Polk State College at 2 p.m.
