Men's basketball team tops Indian River State

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team hit some big shots down the stretch to defeat Indian River State College Wednesday night in a Citrus Conference game.

The No. 21 ranked Titans defeated Indian River State College 72-67 at Titan Field House to improve to 3-1 in the conference.

With the Titans holding onto a two-point lead with five minutes and 12 seconds remaining, Carlos Cortijo and Matija Zuzic both made big shots to extend the lead to 69-62. From there the Titans would hit their free throws to pick up the victory.

Eastern Florida State College would jump out to a big lead early as Cortijo scored seven straight points during a Titans run that saw them tame a 23-11 lead in the first half. Indian River would slowly cut into the lead and with six minutes left in then half, the Titans held a one-point lead. But Andrija Bukumirovic hit two straight shots as the Titans went on a quick 10-0 run that helped them go into halftime leading 42-33.

A run by Indian River would cut the lead to two once more and it would remain close throughout the second half.

The Titans, who are now 15-3 overall, were led by Zuzic who had 14 points while both Cortijo and Bukumirovic had 13 in the win.

Mykol Sanchez led the Pioneers with 16 points in the loss.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Daytona State College Saturday to face the No. 2 Falcons at 4 p.m.
