Men's basketball team picks up conference win on the road

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team defeated St. Petersburg College in a Citrus Conference match on the road.

The No. 23 ranked Titans used a big second half to pick up the 73-51 win on Wednesday to improve to 1-1 in the conference and 13-3 overall.

The game was a defensive battle early on as a Luca Colceag 3-pointer at the shot clock buzzer got the Titans going. Up seven, Eastern Florida State College would score six straight points and head into halftime with an 11-point lead, 28-17.

Eastern Florida State College came out quick and Emondrek Erkins-Ford scored seven straight points for the Titans at one point as they led by 18, 49-31. From there the shooters seemed to find their mark, hitting seven 3-pointers in the second half to cruise to victory.

St. Petersburg struggled from the free throw line, hitting 16 of 31 attempts. Akiem Nickerson finished with a team-high 15 points in the loss.

Owen Aquino led the Titans with 16 points while the trio of Afan Trnka, Matija Zuzic and Colceag each had 11 points. Carlos Cortijo finished with 10 points in the win.

Eastern Florida State College will go back on the road Saturday, traveling to Santa Fe for a conference game.
