Men's basketball team tops Gulf Coast State College in JUCO Shootout

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team rolled to its ninth win of the season at the JUCO Shootout at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus Saturday afternoon.

The 22nd-ranked Titans, who are now 9-1 on the season, defeated Gulf Coast State College 82-63 in the last game of the day.

Gulf Coast State College got off to a 6-0 start, but the Titans got things going behind Andrija Bukumirovic had a couple of baskets to tie as Eastern Florida State College went on a 11-0 run and led the rest of the first half. The lead would reach 10 with six minutes left in the first half as Luca Colceag had a big dunk and was fouled. He made the free throw to give the Titans a 30-20 lead.

But Gulf Coast State College would close the gap in the final minutes as the Titans would lead 38-34 at the half.

Eastern Florida State College came out in the second half and outscored Gulf Coast State College 14-3 in the first five minutes to take a 52-37 lead. The Titans would keep the lead in double digits for almost the entire second half and have now won four in a row.

Five Titans had at least 10 points led by the duo of Bukumirovic and Matija Zuzic who each had 14. Colceag finished with 13 and Carlos Cortijo and Owen Aquino each had 10 points.

Eastern Florida State College will host Day 2 of the JUCO Shootout Sunday beginning at noon.

The Titans will be back at Titan Field House Tuesday evening against North Florida Prep at 7 p.m.
