Men's basketball team wins again at Jim Grimes Classic

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team defeated East Georgia State College at home on Saturday, 95-62, on Day 2 of the Jim Grimes Classic.

The Titans are 3-0 to start the season.

Eastern Florida State College came out hot to start the first half and led 23-8 at one point but after some costly turnovers and ill-advised fouls, East Georgia State was able to battle back to cut the deficit to six.

"The first half was not ideal. I did not think we came with the mentality we wanted to. (East Georgia State) came out fired up and they made some shots and played well," Eastern Florida State College head coach Jeremy Schulman said.

Fortunately for the Titans, contributions from sophomore guard Matija Zuzic and sophomore forward Luca Colceag helped stave off a potential East Georgia State comeback.

The first half ended with EFSC holding a 41-35 lead over the Bobcats. Zuzic finished the half with 15 points while Colceag finished with 11 points.

In the second half, the Titans came out with much more intensity and poise, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Coach Schulman praised his team's defensive effort and attributed the team's win to clamping down on defense, crashing the boards, and getting out in transition.

The Titans had four players score in double figures. Colceag led all scorers with 20 points.

"Luca is special. We're lucky to have him. He's 6'9, he's so skilled, he's so versatile. He was fantastic today. He's got a lot of room for growth so I'm excited to be part of that journey with him," Schulman said.

Outside of Colceag, Zuzic finished with 18 points, sophomore guard Owen Aquino scored 17 points and freshman guard Carlos Cortijo finished with 15 points. Austen Colton led the Bobcats with 19 points.

In the first game, Florida State College at Jacksonville had another big day against Time to Ball Prep and left Melbourne 2-0.

The Titans will travel to Indian River State College for the Indian River State College Classic on Friday, Nov. 10 where they will face off against Atlantic Cape Community College. The game will be played at 5 p.m.
