Men's basketball team plays Tallahassee in tournament semifinals

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team is playing in the Region VIII Tournament semifinals for the fourth time in five years Friday evening.

The Titans, who are the No. 7 seed and 22-9 after defeating No. 2 Daytona State College in the quarterfinals, will play No. 3 Tallahassee Community College who beat No. 6 seed Florida Southwestern 75-69 on Thursday.

Eastern Florida State College lost to Tallahassee during the Florida JUCO Shootout in December, but the team is coming off one of their best performances of the season on Thursday. The Titans hit 13 3-pointers in the quarterfinals as both Matija Zuzic and Eric Parnell each hit four 3-pointers.

Sophomore Andres Burney scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his 14th double-double of the season.

The Eagles had three players score 15 points or more in the quarterfinal, led by Malachi Davis who had 23 points. Addison Patterson finished with 20 points and Damoni Harrison had 15 in the win.

The men's basketball program has made it to the championship game 15 times, winning state titles six times but head coach Jeremy Shulman is looking for his first state championship.

The men's game will be the first semifinal, beginning at 7 p.m. EDT and fans can watch the game live online at Emerald Coast TV on YouTube.
