Men's basketball team loses to Daytona State College

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team lost to Daytona State College in a Central Conference game Saturday at Titan Field House.

The Titans fell to 9-4 in the conference as Daytona State College won, 93-73 to clinch the conference title.

Eric Parnell got the Titans off to a fast start, hitting two 3-pointers and scored the first eight points of the game as Eastern Florida State led 8-0. But Daytona State College made a run of their own and led 13-8 in the first six minutes of the contest.

Down five the Titans made a 9-0 run to take a 19-17 lead on a Carlin Gelin basket with 10:46 remaining in the first half. Once again Daytona State College responded with a run and took a 42-34 lead into halftime.

Parnell led the way with 14 points in the first half. The freshman finished with 16 points in the contest.

Daytona State College led the entire rest of the way with the Titans making short runs but could not cut into the lead.

Eastern Florida State College's Andres Burney finished with 15 points and Gelin had 10 points in the loss.

The Titans, who are now 19-9 overall, will travel to St. Petersburg on Wednesday night for a Central Conference game at 7:30 p.m.
