Men's basketball team falls short Wednesday night on the road

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team lost a close game to Santa Fe College on the road Wednesday night.

Eastern Florida State College's Andres Burney scored a season-high 35 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the 81-79 Central Conference road loss.

The Titans got off to a bit of a slow start, but Burney and Carlin Gelin took over inside and helped the Titans tie the game several times late in the first half, but the Saints would head to halftime leading 36-31.

Eric Parnell hits a 3-pointer to open the second half and cut the Santa Fe lead in half. From there, Burney continued to attack and help the Titans tie the game in the first two minutes. Another Parnell 3-pointer ties the game 45-45 and then Burney with the steal and dunk gives them the lead 47-45 four minutes into the second half.

With 7:30 remaining, Brandon Garcia hits a 3-pointer to cut the Santa Fe lead to two points. It led to another basket from Burney to tie the game once again. Garcia gives the Titans a lead with a running layup with 4:30 remaining.

With 26 seconds left, Jalen Speer hit one of two free throws to give Santa Fe a two-point lead, but Burney ties it with a dunk.

But Santa Fe scored the game-winner with two seconds left as Speer scored to give the Saints the win.

Garcia scored all 16 of his points in the second half for the Titans.

Nikolas Noumeros had 19 points and Speer finished with 18 for the Saints.
