Men's basketball team tops Santa Fe for conference win

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team hit big shots down the stretch to defeat Santa Fe College in a Central Conference game Wednesday night.

The Titans, who improved to 12-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference, hit 6-of-9 3-pointers in the second half to beat Santa Fe 76-65.

Eastern Florida State College got off to a fast start as Jaden Witter-Watts dunked right off the tip to give the Titans a lead. They would hold that lead the entire second half as an Andres Burney free throw gave them a 10-point lead with under six minutes left in the first half.

The lead would grow to 16 as Eric Parnell and Harry Sosa hit back-to-back 3-pointers. The Titans would head into halftime leading the Saints 42-28.

The Saints would begin hitting some big shots and took the lead for the first time with 13 minutes remaining. The game would remain tight until Sosa and Parnell once again hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Titans a 67-60 lead with six minutes left.

From there the Titans finished off the win with some timely defense and big shots.

It was a big night for both Sosa and Parnell.

Parnell hit six 3-pointers for a career-high 18 points for the freshman from Melbourne. Sosa, the redshirt freshman from Puerto Rico, hit four of six 3-pointers to finish with 12 points in the game.

Witter-Watts also had a big game for the Titans, recording his first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Garcia finished with 18 points and Burney had 14 points and eight rebounds in the game. Owen Aquino finished with a season-high 15 rebounds.

Eastern Florida State College will host Daytona State College in the conference home opener Saturday at 4 p.m. Admission to Titan Field House is free.
