Men's basketball team wins on Day 1 of Jim Grimes Classic

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team opened the Jim Grimes Memorial Classic with a victory over North Florida Prep.

The Titans used some big runs to cruise past North Florida Prep 88-65 and improve to 4-0 this season at home and 8-2 on the season.

With the game tied 18-18, the Titans would score the next 11 points and continue hitting shots to take a 15-point lead into halftime.

Caleb Byrd once again led the offensive attack, scoring 14 of his team-high 31 points.

The Titans would lead by as much as 24 in the second half as they cruised to their second straight victory.

Andres Burney had another double-double for the Titans, scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Moise Balugu led North Florida Prep with 23 points.

In the first game of the day, Daytona State College withstood a rally from South Georgia Tech to remain unbeaten at 8-0. The No. 19 Falcons defeated the Jets 95-83.

Daytona State College's Josue Grullon scored 26 points, hitting five 3-pointers in the second half. Teammate Jacob Crews also scored 26 points while Kezza Giffa had 14 points and Nic McClain added 12.

South Georgia Tech's Semaj Henderson scored 21 points and Deonte Williams had 14 of his 20 points in the second half.

Daytona State College will play North Florida Prep at 2 p.m. to open the final day of the Jim Grimes Classic and the Titans will play South Georgia Tech at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.
