Men's basketball team hosts Polk State in battle for first place

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team will host Polk State College in a game for first place in the Central Conference on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams head into Saturday's showdown at Titan Field House with two losses in the conference and atop the Central Conference. Each team has won once in the season series, making the 2 p.m. game Saturday a crucial game for both teams.

Eastern Florida State College comes into the matchup on a three-game win streak and is looking for its 20th win of the season Saturday. The Titans are 9-2 in the conference and have won the past four games at Titan Field House.

Polk State College is 2-2 in the past four games but are 17-7 overall and 7-2 in the conference. The Eagles are led by a strong trio of Tommie Lewis, Freddie Word and Keenon Cole that all average 10 points or more a game while Eric Butler has been averaging 10 points in conference games this season.

Statistically, the two teams are both averaging 75 points per game this season but defensively the Titans have been really good, holding teams to 63.6 per game and are coming off their best performance of the season, holding the Florida State College at Jacksonville to XX points.

Eastern Florida State College has six players averaging eight points or more per game this season led by Roberts Berze who is averaging 11.

The Titans are the defending conference champions and have won at least a share of the conference title the past nine seasons.
