Men's basketball team tops Daytona State, moves into second place in conference

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team picked up a big win to move into second place in the Central Conference Wednesday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans got off to a fast start and went on to defeat Daytona State College 69-54 and improve to 7-2 in the conference and 17-7 overall.

Roberts Berze came out and hit his first two 3-pointers as the Titans went on a 15-3 run to begin the game. Daytona State College would cut the lead to three at 18-15 but a couple of baskets by Vlad Salaridze and one by Derrick Butler would get the lead back to nine points.

Leading by 11 points at halftime, the Titans would increase the lead in the second half, leading by as many as 20 points in the game.

Salaridze recorded a double-double in the game with 10 points and 13 rebounds. It was the second double-double of the season for Salaridze and fourth in his career. Butler, Berze and Lovre Zaja each had nine points in the game and Justin Reid finished with eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Eastern Florida State College is one game behind Polk State in the Central Conference standings and will travel to St. Petersburg College Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest.
