Men's basketball team opens season with a win

The 14th-ranked Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team opened the regular season Wednesday night with a 95-71 victory over Central Pointe Christian Academy.

Down early in the first half, the Titans got the crowd going with back-to-back dunks as Derrick Butler and Markus Harding gave Eastern Florida State College a lead that they would keep into halftime.

Up four points heading into the second half, the Titans offense found a rhythm and used a 14-2 run over a five-minute span to pull away. Butler, a freshman guard, sparked the run with eight straight points and finished with a game-high 28 points.

Overall, 11 different Titans scored in the game as Roberts Berze finished with 10 points and Harding, Reggie Hill and Vlad Salaridze each had nine points.

"The crowd was absolutely incredible! It was the biggest crowd we've had in almost two years," Eastern Florida State College men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said. "I'm so grateful that our city and county support our program so much! It made for a truly special evening."

Eastern Florida State College is scheduled to play ASA Miami on the road Saturday before hosting the Florida JUCO Basketball Shootout Nov. 12-13 at Titan Field House with the Titans playing at 7:30 p.m. on both nights.
