Men's basketball team wins fourth straight, tops Santa Fe

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team won its fourth straight conference game Saturday, beating Santa Fe 56-50 at Titan Field House.

The Titans, who are 17-9 overall and 6-2 in the conference, took the lead for good when Amar Tiganj hit a 3-pointer with 7:42 left in the game.

Up four points with under a minute left Mikal Starks grabbed two big rebounds and Nick Alves and Johnny Bernard hit free throws to put the game away.

Sophomore Nick Alves finished with his second double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Teammate Calvin Poulina hit four 3-pointers in the first half to finish with 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Eastern Florida State College is tied for first place with the College of Central Florida in the conference heading into the final couple of weeks of the regular season. The Titans will host the Florida State College at Jacksonville Saturday at 2 p.m. at Titan Field House.
