Men's basketball team tops Daytona State in triple overtime

It took three overtimes to settle, but the Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team edged Daytona State College 105-103 in a Mid-Florida Conference game Saturday at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

Freshman guard Brian Dugazon went 18-for-21 from the free throw line and finished with a season-high 41 points including scoring nine of the team's 11 points in the third overtime.

The game featured big shot after big shot as both teams kept the game within a basket throughout the overtime periods. 

Down 63-58 with 9:34 left in regulation, the Titans went on a run to tie the game 68-68 when Johnny Bernard scored. From there the game remained close and Osayi Osifo sent the game to overtime, grabbing a rebound and scoring with 29 seconds remaining to tie the game 75-75.

The Titans scored four straight points in the final minute of the first overtime, taking a three-point lead, 82-79 but Isaad Solano hit a 3-pointer with 28.4 seconds to tie the game 82-82. The second overtime ended tied 94-94 as neither team got ahead by more than three points, setting up a third overtime.

Overall the Titans shot 50 free throws, hitting 40 in the game to improve to 12-8 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Nick Alves finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, marking the third straight game he has scored 13 or more points. Osifo finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds which ties his season high.

The Titans will travel to Santa Fe on Wednesday night for a conference game before hosting ASA Miami on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.
