Men's basketball team falls to Miami Dade in Jim Grimes Memorial Classic

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team lost for the first time in eight games as Miami Dade College won Saturday afternoon in the Jim Grimes Memorial Classic at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans lost 53-44 to Miami Dade who snapped an eight-game losing streak to Eastern Florida State College.

Miami Dade jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first half but the Titans went on a 11-3 run to cut the lead to one but that was as close as they would get as the Sharks would take a 30-21 lead into halftime.

Eastern Florida State College once again cut into the lead in the second half, getting within three points with 11:41 left. But as they seemed to do all day the Sharks would extend the lead back to eight points.

Sophomores Amar Tiganj and Osayi Osifo led the Titans, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively.

Eastern Florida State College held the Sharks to their lowest point total of the season but KJ Fitzgerald and Victor Hart each scored 14 to help Miami Dade pick up the win.

In the first game of the day, Salt Lake Community College finished the tournament 2-1 with an 84-75 win over Pensacola State College.

The game was tied 75-75 with 1:12 left in the game but Salt Lake would score the final nine points to pick up the win.

Spencer Johnson finished with 20 points while Justice Hill had 18 for Salt Lake while Shawndarius Cowart had 16 for Pensacola.

The Titans are off until after Christmas when they host the Josh Artis Memorial Classic on Dec. 28-29 at Titan Field House.
