Men's basketball team opens tournament against Allegany Maryland

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team is back in Hutchinson, Kansas as one of the final 24 teams alive in NJCAA Division I men's basketball.

The Titans come into the national tournament as the No. 10 seed and open Monday at 5:30 p.m. EST against No. 23 Allegany Maryland who comes into the tournament 20-11 and won the District 3 Championship against Monroe College.

Allegany Maryland is led by Demarcus Demonia who is averaging 21.6 points and 12.1 rebounds per game which is second best in the nation. The sophomore was a third team All-American last season for the Trojans.

Eastern Florida State College is making its fifth straight appearance in the national tournament and finished third last season and second in 2017. The Titans made the tournament as an at-large bid after a 26-7 season and lost in the Region VIII championship game against Northwest Florida State College who is the No. 1 seed in the national tournament. 

The Titans won 11 of the past 12 games and are giving up an average of 63 points per game in those final 12 games, four against top 25 teams in the nation. Offensively, sophomore Jalen Warren leads the Titans averaging 12.9 points per game.

The Titans head into the first round with a 7-3 record at the national tournament under head coach Jeremy Shulman.
