Men's basketball team rolls in home opener

The Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team used some hot 3-point shooting and a tough defense to roll past ASA Miami 97-59 in the home opener Tuesday night at Titan Field House.

Down one point five minutes into the contest, the Titans used six 3-pointers to go on a 29-0 run and never looked back, taking a 54-18 lead into halftime.

"I was really proud of the guys, thought we came out really focused, they were dialed in to play at home," Eastern Florida State College men's basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said. "The defensive effort, holding a talented ASA Miami team to 18 points in the first half spoke volumes about our defense. I could not be more proud of the guys in the first half."

Already up big, the Titans came out of the locker room and scored the first 13 points to lead 67-18. Overall the Titans made 12 3-pointers in the game.

Johnny Bernard scored 11 of his team-high 16 points in the second half while Ayo Dada had 12 points, Jalen Warren and Osayi Osifo each had 11. Jonathan Ned and Nathanael Jack each finished with 10 points in the win.

"It was a different type of game tonight, we weren't as efficient as I would like for us to be but to have six guys in double figures is the kind of balance we need," Shulman said. "We don't have a go-to guy but we have a ton of guys that can put the ball in the basket."

Eastern Florida State College hit the road after the game as they are at Miami Dade Wednesday night before hosting Polk State College at Titan Field House Saturday at 2 p.m.
