Ahmed Ali named second team All-American
Eastern Florida State College men's basketball player Ahmed Ali was named to the NJCAA Division I All-American second team.
The sophomore guard from Toronto Canada found out on his birthday that he was one of the 10 players in the country named to the second team.
Ali averaged 17.9 points and 4.7 assists, hitting 40 percent of his 3-point shots and was the Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year, helping the Titans to a 30-5 record and a third place finish in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
"To be honest this feels like a team award," Ali said. "Everybody has been a part of this, all 36 games. I think the whole team should celebrate this because we have been going hard in the weight room, the gym this season."
During his two seasons at Eastern Florida State College, Ali has scored 1,182 points, making 230 3-pointers which is the most in school history.
"This is a perfect way to end my career at Eastern Florida State College," Ali said. "To be honest, I wanted to win a national title, it was one of my goals this season but the fact that we competed for a national championship two years in a row and go that deep is truly a blessing.
Last week Ali played for Team Canada in the Robert and Zoe Scrive's Challenge World Championship in Tourcoing, France.
It is the second straight season the Titans have had a player make the All-American teams as Kareem Brewton was named first team All-American last season.
