Men's basketball team hosts Santa Fe in key conference game

With less than three weeks left in the regular season, the men's basketball team is in a three-team battle for the Mid-Florida Conference title.

It begins on Wednesday night when the 5-2 Titans hosts Santa Fe College who is also 5-2 in the conference.

The Titans, who are No. 10 in the NJCAA Division I poll and 22-3 overall, picked up the win in the first meeting behind Michael Nuga's 20-point effort as they broke open a close game late for a 93-71 win on Jan. 20.

But since then, Santa Fe has won four straight including a big win over the College of Central Florida last Saturday which gave all three teams two losses in the conference with five or six games remaining.

Santa Fe is led by the duo of Darrell Jones and D-Juan Taylor Hodge who each average 13 points per game, while teammate Sean Flood is hitting a Region 8-best 52 percent of his 3-pointers this season.

The Titans are led by sophomore point guard Ahmed Ali who is averaging 19.4 points per game while Eli Abaev is second in Region 8 in rebounding, averaging 10 per game.

Wednesday night's game will tip off at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
