Men's basketball team picks up Mid-Florida Conference win

The No. 7-ranked Eastern Florida State College men's basketball team picked up a Mid-Florida Conference win Wednesday night, defeating Daytona State College 70-62 on the road.

The Titans jumped out to a 20-point lead early in the second half, but Daytona State stormed back and cut the lead to three points with four minutes and 11 seconds remaining. Sophomore Ahmed Ali drove and kicked it out to a wide open Junior Madut who hit the 3-pointer and after an offensive foul on Daytona State, Ali found Silas Adheke for a dunk and the Titans were back up nine points.

Madut had a big first half as the Titans led from start to finish, holding Daytona State scoreless for the first four minutes of the game. The freshman scored 11 points in the first half including a big 3-pointer and was fouled for a four-point play that started a 9-2 Titans run.

Madut finished with a season-high 19 points to lead the Titans while Eli Abaev finished with 12 points and Michael Nuga had 10.

The Titans, who improved to 19-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference, will play Santa Fe who is unbeaten in Mid-Florida Conference play. The game will tip off at 4 p.m. at Titan Field House and be shown on WEFS-TV and online at efsctitans.com/webcast
